I am a 57 year old baby boomer who has been married for 37 years to the same wonderful man – Bill. We live in Broken Arrow, OK, and have two grown children – Wil and Shelly – who live in Tulsa.
As a young newlywed, I worked for Du Pont company in Newark, Delaware, for 6 years. Then I had two children. For a short time, I sold real estate; however, that became too difficult with small children. So, at 28, I became a stay-at-home mom and Bill became the sole breadwinner as a Delaware State Trooper/helicopter pilot. When my son started having problems in preschool, I pulled him out of school and started homeschooling. Although I only planned to homeschool a year or two until he caught up, I ended up homeschooling both my children from K – 12th grade. My son, Wil, is a freelance graphic artist and Macintosh technician; my daughter, Shelly, is currently a bartender/college student.
After years of being a stay-at-home mom, I started writing for homeschoolers in 2004. You can read more about my homeschool life in my blog, Empty Nest Mom. I am also the author of the Oklahoma Homeschool website and several resources for homeschoolers including The Checklist, Oklahoma History Online, and Oklahoma Scrapbook.
When I have time, I volunteer for Seasons Hospice and my home church, St. James UMC. You can read about my experience co-leading a group of seniors from St. James on my blog, Top 50.
I also enjoy writing, reading, traveling, and being with my family and friends. Because my husband and I love traveling in Oklahoma, I started the Oklahoma Travel Blog.
Because I like to help others write, I started the Writing Lessons Blog. In addition, I occasionally get paid to write for the Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
I’m also interested in religion and politics, so I started a somewhat-controversial blog called, Religitics: Thoughts on Religion and Politics.
In my spare time, I’m back in college working on my Bachelor of Science degree fromOSU in Journalism/Public Relations. You can read about this adventure in my blog: EmptyNestMom Goes to College.
Finally, since I am an official Baby Boomer (born in 1950), I decided to start this blog for others like me. My goal for this blog is to provide information, resources, and laughter to those like me who are living out the best years of our lives!
